Anatomy of An Evolution
Generally the evolutions are the same. The Plebes arrive. They do what they need to do. They leave. But, there are differences.
HOW DO THE PLEBES GET TO AN EVOLUTION?
There are a couple different ways. But, first of all, they need to be escorted. Any time a Plebe is moving from one place to another he/she needs to be escorted. The Detailers do this. Some times these Detailers refer to themselves as "babysitters."
Most of the evolutions occur in the Yard so the Plebes would be escorted.
However when they complete the evolutions at the Naval Station, they have to be transported by a flat utility boat that carries 80 Plebes at a time---or one company, or two platoons. Each Plebe salutes the ensign as he/she boards the boat. The events at the Naval Station are the High Ropes Course, the "E"
DURING THE EVOLUTION WHAT DO THE DETAILERS DO
It actually depends on the evolution.
Some times, they just leave and come back 45 minutes later to "escort" their Plebe to the next evolution. Swimming, Library, Sailing.
Other times they just sit around and watch what happens. High Ropes, Weapons
At other evolutions, they actually participate: "E" Course, Obstacle Course.
WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS
Again, this depends on the evolution.
For a lot evolutions the instructors are from the athletic department. For example, the Spring Football team manages the "O" and "E" course.
AT other evolutions it is enlisted sailors. The Damage Control sessions is the best example.
