ThorntonStudios | PS18 About Us

In 1980, we came up with the idea of filming "Waldo." For the next 20 years, with Naval Academy support, we immersed ourselves in learning how to provide parents with as many quality photographs of their Plebes as possible. We quickly learned that our goal was to photograph Plebes during an evolution -- and not the evolution itself. In 2001 the Naval Academy recognized the importance of our service. We then worked through the Alumni Association and became the "official" Plebe Summer photographer. We contributed a portion of our sales back to the incoming Plebe class. About 2009 the Alumni Association decided to provide the service with some of their own staff. We continued to photographs Plebe Summer in response to the many parents concerned about quality and service. In 2017, the Alumni Association turned over the job to the Naval Academy portrait photographer, Legacy Studios.
