Commissioning Week Tradition, Folklore and Pranks

Commissioning Week is a joyous occasion, for midshipmen as well as parents. Perhaps a little too joyous.

The First Class are ready to graduation from four years of hard work. Far from their mind are rules and regulations, so it is a prime time for pranks. In the late 1950, there occurred at the beginning of Commissioning Week a most unique prank -- and one that could not possible happened today. An attractive female Annapolitan was coaxed into donning a midshipman uniform. With her in her cover, she walked into Bancroft Hall and spend several nights. She even attended meals in King Hall. The Firsties were either oblivious to what was happening, didn't care -- or perhaps weren't even there. But the young lady was there, and never turned in.
