Commissioning Week: Traditions, Folklore and Pranks
The first class ring was in 18???, and in 1869, each class would design their own ring. Its design incorporated the Academy's coat-of-arms. Second Class midshipmen can wear their rings once they are "baptized" at the Ring Dance of Commissioning week. This tradition began in 1925. The water for the dipping of the ring comes traditionally from the Seven Seas of the world and is donated by alumni members of the fleet.
