WHAT DOES A PHOTO GALLERY LOOK LIKE? / NAVIGATING A GALLERY
The photographs are organized into folders and then subfolders. Sometimes there will be a third layer of folders. Clicking on any folder will reveal all subfolders. If a folder is grey, it is a LINK to other folders. Click on it.
NAVIGATION OF THIS SCREEN: In the upper left hand corner is the gallery hierarchy. It is Home>All Photographs>Level 1 Folders>Level 2 Folders -- and so on. You can click on any part of the hierarchy to go up the hierarchy. Clicking on HOME will take you back to the Home page, etc.
Hover over any thumbnail. A popup with the image number will appear.
Move your mouse onto the screen and two grey arrows will appear, one on the left (if there are images to the left) and one on the right (if there are images to the right). Left click on the arrow to see the next or previous photograph. If you are at the beginning or end of the slide show, only one arrow button will be available.
Left click on image if you want to see an even larger version of the photograph. To return to the slide show, click on the grey X in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Click on any thumbnail and the large version will replace the current large image.
ORANGE LINKS IN UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF SCREEN:
BUY: Takes you to the BUY options.
CREATE A BOOK: Take you to the CREATE A BOOK OPTION.
SLIDESHOW: Click here to view the images in a large slide show.
Now, go back one screen. You will also see gray boxes. The grey boxes are not empty. If you click on the first box, second row, the following screen will appear:
Each box is a link to a photo gallery (if you see a photograph), or another set of galleries 9if you see a grey box). The screen above shows only Companies 1-8. To get to the other companies, you would simply scroll down the page.
SAVE A PHOTO TO MY FAVORITES?
Find a photograph you want to save. See below for sample. Move your cursor to the upper right hand corner of image and the white heart you see in the image below will appear. Left click on the heart. It will turn to a red heart, indicating your photo is saved.
When saved, the following will appear above THORNTON STUDIOS. It indicates that (1) photo has been saved to Favorites: My selection.
Step 3: Continue finding photographs and repeat the process.
NOTE: If you hover with your mouse over the upper left hand corner the following options will appear:
1) BUY: this link takes you directly to purchasing the photo. Two options are available:
First: Downloads in a 1 MP (Social Media and 3.5 x 5 print size), 3MP (makes an acceptable 5x7 print), and a 5MP (makes an acceptable 8x10 print).
Second: Prints, available in 3.5 x 5, 5x7, and 8x10 sizes.
There is a THIRD option, a photo book. You will need to save at least 12 images to create a photo book. There will be a CREATE A PHOTO BOOK option when you open your Favorites.
2) ADD/REMOVE FROM FAVORITES: ADD TO FAVORITES will appear if you have not already added the image to your favorites. REMOVE will appear if you have already added the image to your favorites. Click REMOVE if you want to remove the photograph from MY FAVORITES.
TIP: Instead of calling the photos you saved "Favorites: My selection" you can create you own name, like PHOTO BOOK or Commissioning Week. See below on how to do this.
Step 1: Hover of the Favorites: My Selection (1) above THORNTON STUDIOS.
A drop down will appear with the following options: Edit My Selection and Add New Set. Left click on Add New Set. The following popup will appear.
Step 2: Type in a name for your set of favorites.
Step 3: Left click on CREATE. In the upper left hand corner of home page will now appear the name of the new set of Favorites. The (0) means in this case that no photographs have yet been saved to the Photo Book set of favorites.
CREATING SEVERAL FAVORITE FOLDERS
It is simple. Just create three SETS of FAVORITES as described above. We suggest one for Downloads, one for prints, and one for a Photo Book.
It will look like this:
Edit Photo Book
Switch to Downloads
Switch to Prints
The order will depend on the order you created them in. The "Edit" SET is the one that you are working on. Click on the "Switch to" to change to another SET.
To save a photograph to one or all of the SETS, you will need to do the following.
First, select the photograph.
Second, select the SET.
CREATING AN ORDER
In this step you create your order, and then save it to your cart. You can of course order it at the same time.
First, select the SET OF FAVORITES you wish to order from.
The SET of FAVORITES below is a set of five photographs in a Downloads SET.
Above the five images you will see the following: Buy Download All Remove All and Create a Book.
BUY: Takes you to BUY options. You will be clicking this button.
DOWNLOAD: Studio use only.
REMOVE ALL: Removes all photographs. Try not to do this unless you really wish to delete all your FAVORITES.
CREATE A BOOK: Select for ordering if you want a 5x5 photo book (and have at least 12 photographs) or an 8.5x11 book (if you have at least 20 photos).
ORDERING DOWNLOAD FILES
NOTE: Click on link for different size samples to download: http://www.plebesummer.com/downloadsamples
Step 1: Highlight all images.
Step2: Left click the BUY button.
Decide the size and number of files you wish to order.
NOTE: A pixel is a dot of color. Two hundred pixels are needed for one inch of color. A 1 x 1 inch square would need 200x200 (or 40,000) pixels. A 5x7 print is 35 square inches. To make an acceptable print, you multiply 35 x 40,000 -- or 1,400,000 (1.4 Million) pixels.
|FILE SIZE||USE||ACCEPTABLE PRINT SIZE|
|1 MP (1 Million Pixels)||Social Media and prints||3.5 x 5|
|3 MP (3 Million Pixels)||Desktop prints||5 x 7|
|5 MP (5 Million Pixels)||Wall Prints||8 x 10|
Notice that if you order 3 files, you save 10% and if you order 5 files you save 20%. Once you decide, click the SELECT button.
PRICES FOR DOWNLOADS
Next, click on the CONTINUE button.
The next screen you see will be the one below.
Highlight all and click on the BUY button. This will take you to:
You have three options" Selected, Favorites and All. Chose Favorites. A dropdown will appear with three options: Downloads, Prints, and Photo Book. There may be other or different options if you created different SETS. Left click on the first image. Drag the image to the first DRAG PHOTO HERE. NOTE the image you dragged now has a green check in the lower left hand corner. Continue dragging until you have dragged all 5 photos. The website will not let you order until you have 5 images. When you are done, click on SAVE TO CART in the lower right hand corner. This will save your cart for later.
Add all the photographs that you want to order prints of to MY FAVORITES to your PRINTS SET. See below five selected photographs.
HOW TO ORDER A 3.5x5, 5x7, or 8x10 of one photograph.
Step 1: Highlight the one photograph you want to purchase. It will have a gray box around it. Then Hover over the BUY. A dropdown will appear. Click on Select Product.
TIP: If BUY ALL appears, as it does below, you have selected all images to purchase. Just select one.
The following screen will appear. Since you are ordering a print, you will click on the PRINTS box, the one with the baby in it.
NOTE: You can purchase at multiple prints of a single image or multiple images at a reduced print. For now we are purchasing one print of one photograph.
Once you click on the PRINTS box, the following screen will appear.
Decide the print size you wish to order, 3.5x5, 5x7, or 8x10. Left click on the print size and a gray box will appear around your selection. See below.
Since you want one copy only, you can proceed.
NOTE: The screen below Quantity as 5. If you change the QUANTITY back to 1 the price will return to $17.00.
Select ADD TO CART. The following screen will appear. This is your order. Check to be sure it is correct. It is in your cart and you can order now or later. See next screen for cropping.
You have two choices on when to crop: now or right before you order. Cropping for an 8x10 is particularly important because the aspect ratio of the 8x10.
NOTE: The aspect ration is the % relationship between one side of a photograph to the other, usually the short side to the long side. The file taken by most camera is 66%. The short side is 66% of the long side.
3.5x5 Prints: The aspect ratio (the 3.5 inch side as a proportion of the longer 5 inch side) is 70%. Since there is a 4% difference between the file ration and the 3.5x5 ratio, you will lose 4% of the image -- 2% on each side of the image. You can crop the image so that you lose the 2% only on one side -- or the other.
5x7 Prints: The aspect ratio (the 5 inch side as a proportion of the longer 7 inch side) is 71%, essentially the same as a 3.5x5.
8x10 Prints: The aspect ration (the 8 inch side as a portion of the longer 10 inch side) is 80%. The difference between the aspect ratio of the file (66%) and the 8x10 aspect ration of 80% is a large 14%.
You will lose 14% of the original image, all from the top, all from the bottom, or some from the top and some from the bottom. This is one form of cropping.
If you look at the screen below, you will see that the file has been automatically cropped to accommodate the 8x10 aspect ratio.
Above the photographs, you have 6 choices.
First, CENTER. If you select CENTER you will receive a print that includes the entire file, but there will be white space on the top and bottom of the photograph.
Second, FIT. If you select FIT the image will fill the entire 8x10 size but you will lose 14% of the file. What you lose can be adjusted by you.
The third choice is to print the photograph in color, which is what most people want.
The fourth choice is to print the photograph in black and white. See below.
The fifth choice is to print the photograph in sepia tone. See below.
The last choice is RESET.
Now for the second form of CROPPING. IF you hover over the orange box and hold your mouse down, you can move the orange square and crop the image exactly like you want. Below the cropping is all the way to the left.
You can also print just a portion of the photograph. Click on one of the handles of the orange crop guide and move it in, left or right as you wish.
If you wish to change the print size you want to order, click on the CHANGE button in the upper left hand corner. A popup will appear for you to make the change.
When you have finished your cropping click on DONE in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Your work will be saved to your CART. Note that the same cropping can be done while in your CART so you do not have to do it now -- or you can change your mind later.
To order one copy of each photograph, either as a 3.5, 5x7, or 8x10, select all the five photographs in your PRINT FAVORITES SET.
Click on the BUY ALL link, which will take you to this screen.
If you select 3.5x 5, you will be ordering one 3.5 of each of the five photographs. If you select 5x7, you will be ordering one 5x7 of each photograph. Same for 8x10. If you do not want the same size print of each photograph, you will need to order each photograph and size separately -- and place in your cart. See below.
If you are going to order more than one copy of any photograph, or multiple prints in one print size, select all the photographs, click on BUY ALL and then select the PACKAGES box on the front right -- rather than the print box. The screen below will appear.
The packages are not in order, but they are:
Multiple prints from a single photograph:
3 Copies of a 3.5x5, 5x7, or 8x10. Saves 10%.
5 Copies of a 3.5, 5x7, or 8x10. Saves 20%.
Multiple prints from different photographs:

Decide on what you want to order. Click on your choice and click the SELECT button. The screen below will appear next.
